A Beautiful Morning of Hope: Highlights from the 21st annual Sherry’s Run 5K Run/Walk to Benefit Sherry’s Hope
What was expected to be a stormy morning turned into a beautiful morning of HOPE with a rainbow shooting across the sky as families and friends gathered for the 21st annual Sherry’s Run 5K Run/Walk to benefit Sherry’s Hope. While the Blues Brokers sang cheerful tunes, 2,800 participants filled West Main St. in Lebanon to begin the race. Some walked in honor of a loved one battling cancer, others walked in memory of a family member or friend, and all made a difference in our community by participating!
The Sherry’s Run 5K Run/Walk is the largest fundraiser of the year for the Sherry’s Hope organization. In 2023, Sherry’s Hope was able to assist 135 families with over $300,000 in assistance. Because of God’s blessings on the Sherry’s Run event, dozens of families in Wilson County and surrounding communities will be assisted by Sherry’s Hope with expenses caused by cancer.
The 2024 Sherry’s Run 5K was held in honor of Kathy Piper and Dr. Scott Giles and in memory of Dr. John Pino. When introduced to the stage, cancer survivor Kathy Piper shared a heartfelt message to others who are going through their own cancer journey. Dr. Scott Giles used his time on the stage to encourage the community to get tested for colon cancer. Dr. John Pino’s family accepted a plaque in his memory as his son, Ryan Pino, moved many in the crowd to tears as he shared how special his father was.
The Sherry’s Hope Board & Staff would like to express their gratitude to everyone who participated in the Sherry’s Run 5K Run/Walk, and the hundreds of volunteers and sponsors who made the event possible! This year, 128 teams participated together! The following teams received awards:
Most participants on a team: Wilson Bank & Trust
Most money raised (over entry fees): Team Maple Hill

There were 548 chip-timed runners out of the 2,800 participants who registered! As runners/walkers made their way across the finish line, Cumberland University’s cheer squad cheered them on!
