The Sherry’s Hope Gala formerly Mardi Gras to benefit Sherry’s Hope

The Sherry’s Hope Gala presented by Zaxby’s will be held Saturday, February 25, 2023 at the Farm Bureau Exposition Center in Lebanon.

Formerly known as Mardi Gras to benefit Sherry’s Hope, this event raises money for Sherry’s Hope, a local nonprofit organization that assists families in Wilson County and surrounding communities who are experiencing financial difficulties due to a current cancer diagnosis. Sherry’s Hope also provides a monthly support group for cancer patients and caregivers. Additionally, Sherry’s Hope is passionate about colon health and provides free colorectal cancer screening test kits.

“Over the past twenty-one years this event has evolved from a small gathering of friends to a staple event in Wilson County with over 300 in attendance,” said Kevin Bass, Sherry’s Hope Executive Board Member. “We are very grateful to everyone who has made this event so successful and helped it to grow. This year’s event chair, Julie Wilson, co-chair, Sara Alter and their team are working hard to ensure another great event.”

“We are grateful for Zaxby’s being our presenting sponsor for The Sherry’s Hope Gala,” said Julie Wilson, event chair. “This year’s event features a cocktail hour hosted by Cheers Wine and Liquor, followed by a delicious dinner from Ed Riley and his team at Two Fat Men Catering. We have some great items for our silent auction and live auction. And to top off the evening, C Dock Boyz will be performing. Don’t let the new name ‘Gala’ confuse you. As in the past, all will be welcomed to come as you are. It’s going to be the same great evening, full of fun, supporting the wonderful work Sherry’s Hope does in our community.”

Faith, courage, optimism and a desire to help others were qualities that defined Sharon “Sherry” Patterson Whitaker. Both before and after the energetic wife and mother was diagnosed with colon cancer, the impression she made on her family, friends and community was undeniable. While her battle in the flesh was lost in 2004, the spirit she had shown throughout life continues to touch more lives every day. Because of Sherry’s Run, a 5K run/walk benefit organized in Sherry’s memory, area cancer victims and their families can make strides toward becoming cancer survivors, and researchers are a small step closer to stopping the disease for good.
