Lt. Bob Harrison was a man who dedicated half of his life to serving his neighbors through law enforcement. Though he was a highly decorated officer, he was best known for his spirit of kindness and his excellent sense of humor.

The lifeblood of the annual Sherry’s Run 5K Run/Walk event is truly in the overwhelming support from the local community. One of the best places to witness this is in the silent auction tent! “We couldn’t do this without the generous support of our local businesses,” says Sherry’s Run Board Member and Auction Committee Chair, Tammye Whitaker.

Superheroes come in all shapes and sizes and can sometimes be found in the most unlikely of places. Whit Robertson, a Lebanon, Tennessee teen, lived a life marked by care and concern for those around him and truly made a heroic impact. 

One of the most special elements of the annual Sherry’s Run 5K Run/Walk event is the balloon release. Participants at the event attach the names of their loved ones who have fought or are still fighting cancer and, often tearfully, watch as those names float upward in a beautiful tribute. Many of these names have been found in other states and can be very emotional for the family members of those found.

Service to God, country and family. This sums up the life and legacy of Dr. Donald Cole of Lebanon, Tennessee. Whether he was serving his country as a Lt. Colonel in the Army or serving as a medical missionary in the jungles of Ecuador, Dr. Cole’s life was marked by service to others. Since moving to Wilson County 20 years ago, he made it his priority to raise the quality of health care for the people in this community. 

For many people facing a cancer diagnosis, the future can seem hopeless. For Joseph Riley, however; there was hope in his family and in the support he received from Sherry’s Run. 

Dr. Christina Steger has become a household name in the Wilson County community. When asking around town for the best pediatrician, her name was the first you would hear for many years. In fact, many of her patients were second generation. After “growing up with her,” many locals chose her to see their own children, as well. 

Where do you show your green? The lime green bows have come to be a symbol for HOPE in your community. They are bright reminders for us that we are neighbors who fight for each other in the darkest times. What makes Sherry’s Run different from every other 5K event? Heart. So many of the people who participate in this unique grassroots event are there because they love someone who is battling or who has battled cancer. This is most evident in the spirit of the teams. Without the teams, Sherry’s Run would not be what it is.

She’s bright, mature, and full of life and spirit. When 13 year old Samantha Minervini tells her story, one cannot help but be impressed with her wisdom and courage.

It is a six letter word that has impacted all of our lives. It is no respecter of persons and if you think it cannot touch you, you are wrong. Chances are if you are reading this, you have been impacted in some way by cancer.

Since 2002, the Shamrock Society of Lebanon, Tennessee has organized a fundraising event known as The Low Country Boil. A desire to help their neighbors battling cancer and have fun while doing it is what has fueled this group through the years, and that same spirit carries on this year with a new twist. On Friday, February 5, the Shamrock Society invites you to a new event called Mardi Gras at the Capitol.

“We are told to bear one another’s burdens and that is exactly what this event is about today. We are here to bear one another’s burdens,” Kevin Medlin, pastor of Cumberland Presbyterian Church reminded the crowds gathered at the 12th Annual Sherry’s Run on Saturday. “We are are here to tell those we love that they do not stand alone. We are here to stand with them; to fight with them.”  

A family’s first trip to Disney World is a very special time. In March, 2013, Amanda Ray, along with her husband, Nelson and two young sons made that trip, and it was a great one! But, Amanda was not herself. Of course, like all moms do, she pushed through and tried to have a good time in spite of the pain and the fatigue. Between her preparations to run her first marathon and the extra time she spent studying to complete her doctorate, she thought her symptoms were just everyday exhaustion and stress.
