The busiest spot in Lebanon on Saturday morning, September 14th was the Sherry’s Run 5K Run/Walk! Over 3,500 people gathered to participate in the 16^th Annual Sherry’s Run 5K Run/Walk, including 578 chip timed runners!

The Sherry’s Run 5K Run/Walk is the largest fundraiser of the year for the Sherry’s Run organization. This year more than $271,000 was raised from the event. The tremendous support of the community will allow the Sherry’s Run organization to provide financial assistance, spiritual and emotional support for families in Wilson County and surrounding communities who are battling a cancer diagnosis and treatment.

The 2019 Sherry’s Run 5K was in honor of Todd and Diane Smith. Todd and Diane are longtime supporters of the Sherry’s Run organization. Todd manages the Sonic restaurant on West Main Street in Lebanon and Diane manages the Sonic location in Carthage. Todd and Diane are an inspiration with their positive attitudes and faith in God as they have both faced battles with cancer.

The 2019 Sherry’s Run 5K was in memory of Geoff Sadler. Geoff and Heather clung to their faith throughout Geoff’s battle with cancer. Geoff lost his earthly battle with esophageal cancer in November of 2018. Although it hasn’t always been easy, Heather chooses to trust that God is upholding her family and will bring good from their journey. Throughout their journey, Geoff encouraged Heather to trust in God’s plan for their lives and to use their story to encourage others.

Thank you to everyone who participated in the Sherry’s Run 5K Run/Walk! There were 141 teams who participated. The following teams received awards:

A huge thank you to the more than 600 volunteers who worked hard and spent countless hours to make the Sherry’s Run 5K event successful! Without their tireless efforts this event would not be possible!

Buckeye Drugs Makes Donation to Sherry’s Run 

Buckeye Drugs in Lebanon recently presented a $5,000 check to the Sherry’s Run organization as part of their sponsorship for the upcoming Sherry’s Run 5K Run/Walk.

The Sherry’s Run organization works year round to provide financial, spiritual and emotional assistance to those in the community who are battling cancer. In 2018, the Sherry’s Run organization provided over $44,600 in assistance to 30 patients and their families in Macon County.

March is Colon Cancer Awareness Month. Colon cancer screening is very important to the Sherry’s Run organization because of the battle Sherry Whitaker, the namesake of Sherry’s Run, faced with the deadly disease. Sherry was a 44 year old wife and mother of two young boys when she died from colon cancer. She did not have a history of colon cancer in her family and she was under the age for typical recommended screenings.

On Friday, February 1, people from across Wilson County showed up in a big way for Mardi Gras at the Capitol to benefit the Sherry’s Run organization.

The Sherry’s Run organization is excited to announce the hiring of Pat Lawson as the Executive Director.  

“We are excited to have Pat join the staff of the Sherry’s Run organization,” said Scott Jasper, Sherry’s Run Executive Board member.

The Sherry’s Run Executive Board is excited to announce Glenn and Julie Miller-Wilson are the official chairs for the 4th annual Mardi Gras at the Capitol to be held Friday, February 1, 2019.  

“You have invasive breast cancer.” Those are words that an estimated 266,120 women in the United States will hear this year. They definitely aren’t the words Steve Sempsrott from Lebanon ever expected he would hear from his doctor.

“You are too young to have breast cancer.” These are words Toni Roberts of Lebanon wants to make sure women don’t hear and believe.

 More Than 3,000 Participated in the 2018 Event – 486 of those were chip timed runners

Anniversaries are special…a time to reflect on how far you have come and everything you have accomplished. This was the spirit surrounding the 15th annual Sherry’s Run event. Thousands gathered to celebrate the tremendous support that our community has poured out for cancer patients and their families. One participant commented how incredible it was to see “such a great cloud of witnesses” showing up to stand with those who have fought and those who are still fighting!

Larry Locke, and his wife Carol, spent the last 40 years ministering to the Lebanon community. Though Locke certainly cared for and spent much time with his own congregation, the College Hills church of Christ, his passion was for the most marginalized in this community.

The faithful support of many local businesses is the backbone of a local faith based organization called Sherry’s Run. “Many of our corporate sponsors have been with us for 5, 10 or even 15 years,” says Jane Hay, Executive Board Member. “So many of the business owners give because they care and want to give back to their community.”

Cancer.  A diagnosis that no one ever wants to receive but one in three of us will and is the toughest thing most of us will ever face.  If you’ve been diagnosed with cancer, or a loved one has, could you imagine facing it alone and without needed resources to help you?  No!  You’d hope for a team of people in your corner supporting you every step of the way.  Sherry’s Run makes the connection between the wonderful, giving members of our community who want to help and those who are hurting and need assistance while battling cancer.  With donations from here in our community, Sherry’s Run supporters are truly making a difference in the lives of our neighbors.  When you can’t run the race that is before you – we will carry you.  That’s what neighbors do – and that is one of the many reasons that Sherry’s Run is so important.  What started as a love for one woman has turned into an explosion of grace for this community.  

After more than 30 years of providing a quality barber shop experience in Lebanon, TN, Dwight Huddleston has become a bit of a local legend. He has cut the hair of well-known local names like former sheriff, Terry Ashe, and Judge Wootten. He’s even given a trim to country music singer, Trace Adkins. 

The word TEAM means different things to different people. Maybe for you it means belonging to a group. Or, maybe it means being a part of something bigger than yourself. For the teams that participate in Sherry’s Run, it is all of this and so much more! When you form or join a team to participate in this annual event, you give HOPE to your neighbors fighting cancer and their families.

The Big Payback annual giving day is returning on Wednesday, May 2, and Sherry's Run is excited to take part in this monumental event.

The Big Payback, hosted by The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee, is a community-wide giving day that celebrates Middle Tennessee’s spirit of generosity and supports the life-changing work of area nonprofits.

Every year Dorie Mitchell, Director of Leadership Wilson, invites Sherry’s Run to come and present to her students. Sherry’s Run is a local non-profit that assists cancer patients. But, Sherry’s Run is also very passionate about cancer prevention and education. The organization distributes hundreds of colon cancer screening kits for FREE in partnership with several local physicians who process those kits for FREE.
