15th Annual Sherry’s Run – A Legacy of Hope
More Than 3,000 Participated in the 2018 Event – 486 of those were chip timed runners
Anniversaries are special…a time to reflect on how far you have come and everything you have accomplished. This was the spirit surrounding the 15th annual Sherry’s Run event. Thousands gathered to celebrate the tremendous support that our community has poured out for cancer patients and their families. One participant commented how incredible it was to see “such a great cloud of witnesses” showing up to stand with those who have fought and those who are still fighting!

This year the theme was reflective yet encouraging. The survivor tent was a bright spot decorated with beautiful flowers and full of special gifts donated by area businesses. “Everyone who comes through that tent is overwhelmed with gratitude,” says Alisa Eakes, Patient Assistance Coordinator for Sherry’s Run. “They are just so moved by the great lengths our community goes to show them love and support.”
The 2018 Sherry’s Run was dedicated to the memory of Larry Locke, former minister for the College Hills church of Christ. Larry dedicated more than 30 years of his life to serving the Lebanon community and has even been referred to as the “community pastor.” He deeply loved and cared for everyone who came across his path. The 2018 Sherry’s Run was also in honor of Al Ashworth, Dwight Huddleston and BJ Bryson. Al, a cancer survivor and former patient of Sherry’s Run, gives back by using his talent for photography and also with the proceeds of his book sales to benefit the organization he loves. Dwight has been a community legend and has moved us all with his positive attitude and courage through a long battle with cancer. BJ and her team #BJStrong took the event by storm with overwhelming love and support. She and her husband, Matt, have been long time supporters of Sherry’s Run. Ultimately, the greatest purpose of the event is to raise financial support for our neighbors whose lives are turned upside down by this disease. This year has been a great success with more than $340,000 raised so far. The communities generosity will help with financial assistance, spiritual and emotional support for families who fighting a current cancer diagnosis.
In 2017, funds raised allowed Sherry’s Run to help 219 different families with over $258,000 worth of assistance. The overwhelming support of today’s participants will allow Sherry’s Run to continue offering hope to Wilson County and the surrounding communities.
